How to lose consciousness

In the case of encountering someone who is unconscious and has lost consciousness, we who are nearby must help immediately because if we leave the victim unconscious, they may die from suffocation due to the blockage of the airways from foreign materials, vomit, or other debris blocking the airway, making it impossible for them to breathe. This is according to a publication by the Kalmet Hospital. Therefore, before helping, we also need to prepare ourselves and check the situation according to the following points:

Check the victim’s consciousness

Are they aware of themselves?
Can they respond or call the victim?
Check the airway

Tilt the victim’s head back with one hand to hold the forehead and the other hand to lift the chin.
Listen for breathing and observe the movement of the chest.
Check the circulation by tilting the head back, placing three fingers on the throat, and pulling them towards the side where we are seated.

Rescue methods

Loosen tight clothing and any constraining items.
Tilt the head back to open the airway.
Check and clean the mouth.
Monitor breathing and circulation. If there is a blockage in the airway and circulation, we must arrange the victim’s position safely to ensure the airway remains unobstructed.
Techniques for positioning the victim safely

Technique 1
Remove any glasses from the victim, if present.

Place both legs straight.

Position one arm near us, bending it at the elbow with the palm facing up.

Place the other arm against the chest, holding it steady with our hand to keep it in position.

Use the other hand to grasp the victim’s leg that is farthest from us, holding it at the knee to bend the leg up.

Keep one hand steady on the chest while turning the victim towards us and placing their feet on the ground.

Check the head position that should remain turned slightly with the mouth facing the ground.

Reassess the airway.

Technique 2
Lift the arm that is farthest from us upwards along the side of the body.
Lift the arm that is near us upwards along the side of the body (over the chest).
Lift the leg that is near us up.
One of our hands goes under the head and supports the neck of the victim.
Next, the other hand supports the knee, then turn the victim towards us on a flat surface.
Maintain one hand under the head to support the neck of the victim and pull the other hand of the victim down, placing the palm flat on the surface to support under the chest.
Arrange the victim’s position and check the airway to ensure it is open to facilitate breathing.
Place the victim in a safe position and monitor the breathing movement until rescue teams arrive.
In the case of encountering the described situation, please arrange for the victim to be sent to the nearest hospital by placing the victim in a safe lying position.
